Monster Mountain Museum

Hanksville, Utah

This is a site we passed on the way to Capitol Reef National Park. Dozens of metal sculptures surround the abandoned Desert Inn Motel in Hanksville, Utah. This is called the Monster Mountain Museum. It looks abandoned, too. However, there was plenty to photograph, and these are just the highlights. The sign stating the "Museum Honor System" was so convincing, that we put a few bucks in. I just hope someone collects the money some day. And I hope that the sculptures last a long time, because they are way cool...especially the banjo player.

I like the ferocity of this critter! But it didn't stop me from coming in and taking some pictures.

The "Museum Honor System" sign.

Triceratops Randy's jaws are constructed from the hood and the trunk lid of an old VW Beetle.

I call this the Banjosauricus.

Notice the little critters welded to the neck of the big critter. They are reminiscent of the characters you see in petroglyphs in these parts.

Bob found a critter small enough and tame enough to pet.

Notice the mountain in the distance between the jaws of this one. That is Henry Mountain.

More "petroglyphs."

I took more pictures than these, but you get the idea. I wish I'd had time to find out who was behind this amazing creative output.
